  • National speed limit
    • Unless a specific speed limit is signaled by a sign, the speed limit on the highway is 90 km/h (55 mph). Specific conditions apply such as rain and bad visibility, the driver needs to reduce the speed of the vehicle accordingly, usually 50km/h. In town, the speed limit is 50km/h (31 mph)
  • Where to exchange currency
    • Currency can be exchanged at the airport or at Change Caraibe in Fort de France (by la Savane Park, rue Ernest Deproges and rue de la Liberté). We strongly recommend our US visitors to take cash in euro from the many ATM machines to get the best value for their transaction

    • 911 does not work.  Emergency numbers are:
    • Police: 17

  • Anything Dangerous to be aware of
    • Martinique has been designated safest island in the Caribbean by the 2016 Caribbean Index Report. Common sense apply. We recommend hiring a guide for some hikes such as the top of Mount Pelée, Canal des Esclaves, les gorges de la falaise.
  • Also
    • Standard voltage in Martinique is 220v. An adapter will be needed for US plugs.
    • Tap water is totally drinkable
    • US visitors do not need a visa to enter Martinique for stays under 3 month. A valid passport is required.
