Le Vauclin

Between sea and mountains, Le Vauclin is one of the most important communes in southeastern Martinique: the island's leading fishing port, it is also home to the highest peak in the south, Montagne du Vauclin (504 m altitude).

This fishing village is a gourmet market for its fish, lobster and other seafood. The arrival of the fishing skiffs and gumboats is a sight to behold. Don't miss the "crab fair",  in the run-up to Easter.

Also to Le Vauclin's credit: agriculture and livestock farming. The commune is renowned for its traditional food crops and market gardens (melon, watermelon, banana, etc.).

With its magnificent stretch of water and its water sports club, la Pointe Faula is the place to be for water sports. A natural setting of coconut palms and fine sand, a  steady wind and good thermal breezes make it one of Martinique's best spots.  This unique lagoon with its white seabed and coral reefs is ideal for windsurfers and other funboarders, whether beginners or experienced.

The warm, shallow waters of Pointe Faula are also very popular with children.

A few kilometers from the town, a detour is in order at Anse Macabou, Le Vauclin's other very beautiful beach.

On the land side, from the top of its 504m,  the Montagne du Vauclin offers hikers a splendid panorama over the south of the island.

The tree course at the Domaine de Sigy (2 ha park)  offers several courses for children and adults, experienced sportsmen or not.

A visit, in the Morne Carrière district, to the Village d'Antan.
