This former harbour, located opposite the town, is attached to the beach by a curious strip of sand known as the Tombolo.
THE TOMBOLO: A NATURAL CURIOSITY
The Tombolo is a spit of sand that links the SAINTE MARIE islet to the mainland. A natural maritime phenomenon linked to the action of swells, tides and ocean currents, it appears every year during the dry season known as Lent (approximately from January to April). When the strip of sand is dry, the islet can be reached on foot. A hiking trail leads up to its 2 peaks, offering magnificent panoramic views with the help of an orientation table.
