This nineteenth edition of the International Festival of Stories and Music in the City will be as beautiful as a penultimate breath of Martinique’s cultural expressions, shared with us at AMI. This year, the artistic director (Valer’EGOUY) is honoring the AMI artists who regularly participate in the festival’s events. From October 14 to 26, 2025, accomplished artists from various countries and right here at home will share their stories and music throughout Martinique. The festival welcomes storytellers: Davide BARDI (Italy), Valerie BIENFAISANT (Belgium), Sylvie MALLARD (Switzerland), Kathleen OLIVIER (Perpignan, France), Dominique SEGALEN (Brest, France), Bakary TRAORE (Burkina Faso), Thales ZOKENE (Congo), Jean l’Ocean and Appoline STEWARD (Martinique)... And musicians: Gael AZRA (Cameroon), Jerome CHEVALLIER (Perpignan, France), Sandra ELLAMA (Reunion), Edme DJAKA (Guadeloupe), Gabriel CIBRELIS and Herve HERY (Martinique). Angie, Daniel, Gladys A, Gladys M, Judes, Kati, Lison, Lydia, Mgg—the storytellers from the AMI Storytelling Workshop will accompany the festival caravan. Adeline HOCDET, Barbara THYES, Nadia FERNANDEZ, as well as Kathleen and Jerome—the artists from the RICOCHET Theater Company—will be present starting in the second week and will stay to practice PlayBack Theater. Workshops and performances are on the program. There will be a discussion forum inviting artists from here and elsewhere to share their perspectives on the theme “Oral Tradition: From Yesterday to Today” or “Storytelling: A Bridge Between Cultures.” Open to all on Wednesday, October 22, at 6:30 p.m. at Patio 19 on Rue Garnier Pages in downtown Fort-de-France—come enrich the discussion or listen actively! Activities and performances will take place throughout the region. Artists will lead workshops upon request for school groups and other audiences (music, writing, storytelling in English, Italian, and Kreyol). Mornings will be reserved for meet-and-greets, performances in schools, and Storytime sessions at libraries or media centers. Additionally, we’re planning Story Walks, Storytime Siestas, Storytime Happy Hours, and Storytelling Evenings… All events will be presented by duos or trios of artists, often including a musician. Fort-de-France: Patio 19 and Terre d’Arts at the Domaine de Tivoli—we’ll enjoy Storytelling Sessions together with all the festival’s artists. What if this start to the school year began with a unique experience, where jazz comes alive with groove! On Sunday, September 13, BIG IN JAM SESSION takes over the Ti Puncho Bar in Sable Blanc, overlooking the ocean, from sunset until nightfall.
