Awa Anhan Exhibition by Bruno Creuzet Galerie Andre Arsenec Free admission Awa anhan! A redoubled refusal that is a cry of anger. It's also the start of a war. Bruno Creuzet creates memorial spaces, altars charged with dual, polysemic and familiar symbols. Earth, the metamorphic material the artist has been experimenting with for 3 years, is the guiding thread. It transforms, bears traces: the earth becomes skin. In many cosmogonies, this is the material from which the gods fashioned humans. For Creuzet, it's not a matter of divine creation, but of a sensitive mode of communication with other worlds. The work of modeling takes place in the in-between, in that moment just after waking when the mind is still floating. It's a state of hypersensitivity, almost meditative, where forms emerge spontaneously, like answers to questions that the awakened consciousness hasn't yet asked, distant reminiscences. In these suspended moments, a discreet transmission takes place, perhaps linking in the present moment a long line of ancestors. Bruno Creuzet Bruno Creuzet (1960) is a visual artist. His work falls within the field of contemporary art and combines several disciplines: installation, photography, ceramics, multimedia and performance. Self-taught, he attended the SERMAC painting workshops created by Aime Cesaire for 3 years, followed by free auditor sessions at the IRAV art school in Fort-de-France. His multi-faceted work is often criss-crossed by materials and objects gleaned from collective narratives. Through them, he addresses the history and memory of the African diaspora, Creole and Caribbean cultures, and the symbolic spiritual practices of marronage, in an ongoing quest to preserve heritages. In particular, he has developed the concept of BWAKEN aesthetics, inspired by syncretic practices born of the cultural resistance of Afrodescendant populations to colonial enslavement and dehumanization.
