Conference: THE BELE DRUM: BETWEEN HERITAGE AND INNOVATION Hosted by SULLY CALLY Frantz Fanon Hall FREE ADMISSION Originally from Gros-Morne, Sully Cally first picked up a drum at the age of 12 and drew from it the energy that would lead him toward a rich and diverse career. A versatile artist, he has been, in turn, a percussionist, dancer, songwriter, singer, and actor. He is also a drum maker. Today, he is one of the few artisans on the island who has mastered the art of drum making: wood turning, heating techniques, the secrets of shaping the drum… Making a drum is an art in itself, and Sully Cally invites you to discover it during a talk dedicated to the materials, tools, and techniques that give rise to this iconic instrument.
