Don't panic, I suggest you leave the hustle and bustle of the city and head south, to Les Trois-Ilets to be precise, in not even thirty minutes! Welcome to Pointe du Bout!

For your stopover in Martinique, you have two options:

  • Your stopover is at the Les Tourelles cruise terminal: It's entirely possible to join Blue Lines, a shuttle service linking Fort-de-France to Les Trois-Ilets and, more precisely, Pointe du Bout!

Although the route is not complex, we recommend that you follow precisely the one indicated on Google Maps to get to the terminal. Allow around twenty minutes' walk. While you're walking through the city, you can access the Blue Lines website or app to check rotation times and get your ticket online. Once you've reached the waterfront, all you have to do is head for the penton and wait for a shuttle. The shuttles run regularly, so you won't have to wait long before you can board and enjoy the twenty-minute crossing. It's fast and very quiet, the perfect opportunity to relax while admiring the view.

  • Your stopover is at the Pointe Simon cruise terminal, so remember to check the timetable and pick up your tickets in advance. It'll be even easier and quicker for you to get to the penton. Still following the itinerary, leave your boat and turn right. You can either cross the parking lot in front of you and head straight for the penton, or walk around it on the sidewalk alongside the road, past the roundabout and the Fort-de-France cab rank. Once you're on board, just enjoy the moment and the peace and quiet this crossing brings.

Discovering Pointe du Bout

When you arrive in Trois-Ilets, your shuttle will stop at the Pointe du Bout Marina. What's interesting is that nearby you can also discover Anse Mitan, a neighborhood in the same style as Pointe du Bout, rich in stores, beaches, water sports activities and restaurants.

If you haven't had breakfast yet, you can grab a bite to eat at the Pointe du Bout patisserie and take the opportunity to spot the restaurants present to get an idea of your lunch.

A bit of culture, at Savane des Esclaves

La Savane des esclaves

A ten-minute drive from Pointe du Bout takes you to the Savane des Esclaves museum, a place steeped in history and the brainchild of Gilbert Larose. This incredible project recreates an entire village of yesteryear, with its traditional huts, gardens and medicinal plants.

The site offers free or guided tours, but also a whole program of educational and fun activities, such as baton cacao workshops.

La Savane Des Esclaves Les trois-ilets
In a 3-hectare park, discover 400 years of Martinique's history: a reconstruction of an Amerindian village, a visit to the Rue Case-Nègres illustrating the way slaves lived in their dwellings, and finally the way people lived in the countryside after abolition until 1960. There are 25 traditional huts, 26 bilingual panels, a Creole garden and a medicinal garden to discover during your visit. A video of Gilbert Larose, the creator, explains the history of Martinique and what he has achieved. The tour is self-guided at your own pace, with a map provided and plenty of bilingual French/English signage.

Tips and Interesting Facts:

  • To get to Savane des Esclaves from Pointe du Bout, you'll need a vehicle or opt for public transport with Sudlib buses. However, you need to be careful as schedules are not always respected, which can disrupt your program to get back to Fort-de-France on time.
  • In season, you can attend shows and enjoy a juice bar.
  • On the morning of every first Saturday of the month, you can attend the making of cassaves, traditional galettes.

Back to Pointe du Bout

After a rich day like this one, I suggest you close it with a final dip in the sea at Pointe du Bout and put your trust in the Pitaya, restaurant of the Hotel la Pagerie, which offers formulas for those interested in its pool and/or its dishes, tapas or cocktails.

Not far from the beach, you'll be there in less than ten minutes on foot.
