Inspiring experience
A fine example of a general powder magazine, this vast excavated building was used to store gunpowder for the town's fortifications, protected from damp and bombardment. The architecture of the building, with its vaulted ceiling, ventilation baffles and double doors, was designed to improve Saint-Pierre's defence system at the end of the English occupation in 1816.
