Beaches

Martinique has many family-friendly beaches:

  • Les Trois-Îlets: Anse Dufour is an ideal beach for children, with its shallow turquoise water. Also consider Anse Mitan, crystal-clear, shallow water with lots of little fish.
  • Sainte-Anne: Grande Anse des Salines is perfect for building sandcastles. You'll find a few tables for eating and trees for shelter from the sun. Bring mosquito repellent for late afternoons, as as soon as the sun goes down, they make their appearance.
  • L'Anses d'Arlet: Anse Noire is renowned for its seabed rich in marine life, perfect for snorkeling. There's also a pontoon at Anse Noire where older children can dive or jump into the water for a thrill!

Zoo De Martinique Le carbet
In the enchanting setting of Martinique's oldest house, you can now discover the Martinique Zoo! Monkeys, jaguars, pumas, lorikeets, anteaters, racoons... and many other animals live here for your pleasure. In the midst of the renovated remains of the Latouche dwelling, dating back to 1643, visitors can stroll along an educational trail set up to discover the animals and, why not, interact with them in one of the zoo's immersion aviaries.
Jardin De Balata Fort-de-france
The Jardin de Balata is one of Martinique's must-see sites, classified as a Remarkable Garden and awarded several times by Tripadvisor. Located on the Route de la Trace, just a few minutes from Fort-de-France, it offers a unique immersion into the heart of tropical nature. Created in 1982 by Jean-Philippe Thoze, the garden was developed around a Creole house steeped in history. It is home to over 3,000 tropical species, including rare palms, hibiscus, heliconias and porcelain roses. A veritable natural refuge, it is also a great place to spot many birds, including the emblematic hummingbirds. The suspended walkways in the canopy offer a spectacular experience at a height of almost 15 metres. They offer exceptional views over the bay of Fort-de-France and the Pitons du Carbet. A blend of biodiversity, heritage and Creole tradition, the Jardin de Balata will appeal to young and old alike. It's a place of discovery, contemplation and reconnection with nature. An enchanted interlude in the heart of Martinique.
La Savane Des Esclaves Les trois-ilets
In a 3-hectare park, discover 400 years of Martinique's history: a reconstruction of an Amerindian village, a visit to the Rue Case-Nègres illustrating the way slaves lived in their dwellings, and finally the way people lived in the countryside after abolition until 1960. There are 25 traditional huts, 26 bilingual panels, a Creole garden and a medicinal garden to discover during your visit. A video of Gilbert Larose, the creator, explains the history of Martinique and what he has achieved. The tour is self-guided at your own pace, with a map provided and plenty of bilingual French/English signage.
