Step 1: choosing the right trail
Facile (for beginners):
La Trace des Caps: a coastal walk with magnificent ocean views
Les Salines - Cap Chevalier: flat, accessible paths
Intermediate:
Forêt de Montravail: well-maintained trails with a few climbs
Circuit du Morne Gommier: panoramic views over the south of the island
Advanced:
Montagne Pelée (beware of weather conditions and technical terrain)
Trace des Jésuites: single tracks in the middle of the rainforest
Step 2: prepare your equipment
Mountain bike or eBike: a full-suspension mountain bike is ideal for rough terrain. An eBike can be useful for steep climbs
Mandatory helmet: heat and humidity can tire faster, safety first
Gloves & goggles: protection against mud and branches
Repair kit: inner tube, pump and multi-tools essential
Step 3: staying hydrated and eating well
Humidity is high, so drink plenty of water or take a water bag.
Pack energy snacks (dried fruit, cereal bars).
Step 4: respect nature
Don't leave any rubbish
Beware of slippery paths, especially after rain
Some routes cross natural parks, respect the fauna and flora
