Would you like to do something for the planet?

In Martinique, every landscape tells a story, and that of Rocher du Diamant is absolutely fascinating. Majestic and mysterious, this volcanic islet that rises to an altitude of 175 meters is much more than a natural curiosity: it's a true witness to the naval battles of the XIXᵉ century and a treasure trove for nature and adventure lovers. Ready to dive into its mysteries?

An epic story between Englishmen and French people

Close your eyes for a moment. Imagine this arid, inhospitable rocky outcrop, battered by the waves, welcoming a hundred or so British soldiers in 1804. During the Napoleonic Wars, the British, recognizing its strategic importance, transform Diamond Rock into a maritime fortress they christen "HMS Diamond Rock".
Thanks to its five cannons, the rock becomes a veritable natural warship, capable of controlling maritime traffic in the St. Lucia Channel. For 17 months, the soldiers withstood the French onslaught, living in extreme conditions with limited rations of water, chickens and a few goats to subsist.
But in June 1805, after a bitter struggle and a blockade imposed by the French, the English had to surrender, leaving behind them a military legend. This historic chapter lends Diamond Rock an epic aura, etched in memories and landscapes.

A unique natural sanctuary

Today, the Diamond Rick is inaccessible to the public, but it remains no less fascinating. Classified as a nature reserve, it is home to colonies of seabirds, Couresse snakes - a species endemic to Martinique - and Gécarcinus ruricola crabs. This jewel, visible from the beaches of Le Diamant and the surrounding hills, stands proudly in the sea, testifying to the harmony between nature and history.

Explorer's tip: Meet early in the morning on Diamant beach. When the sun rises, the rock sparkles, fully justifying its name.

Dive into the heart of the Diamond Rock

The mystery of Diamond Rock doesn't stop at its surface. Its spectacular seabed makes it one of Martinique's best diving sites. Caves, volcanic faults and crystal-clear waters reveal exceptional marine fauna: turtles, rays, multicolored fish, and sometimes even dolphins.

Before diving: This site is recommended for experienced divers due to the currents. For a safe and unforgettable experience, use a local dive center.

Madiana Blue Plaisir Le diamant
  • Diving & snorkelling
Plongée Madiana Blue Plaisir was born out of the desire to create a family centre. We're not uncompromising when it comes to safety and the enjoyment of diving. I also wanted to return to my native island and combine diving with West Indian culture. But above all, to live up to the trust placed in us by our divers, not forgetting that this destination is the realisation of a dream for many people. The centre is located in the small traditional port of Cherry in Le Diamant. Off the beaten tourist track, but still accessible and with its own parking area. We have a rigid-hulled boat with 18 places, but deliberately limited to 12 divers for greater comfort. Surface safety is guaranteed on every outing. And our equipment is almost exclusively very recent. Our offers range from discovery dives with or without equipment (first dives, snorkelling) to advanced training (PE12 to N4/OPW) to exploration, depending on your level or wishes. We also offer double dives, refresher courses and technical or specific dives. To immortalise your first dive, photos will be taken. Excursions range from St Luce to the Nahoon, via the Rocher du Diamant and its fault. On the programme, the colours of the coral world with its fauna and the atmosphere of the fault.... After each dive, you'll have a chance to chat over a homemade "planteur" and thirst-quenching drinks. Plongée Madiana Blue Plaisir is your partner in discovering the Bay of Diamant. This bay has everything to appeal to beginners and experienced divers alike. And all this with the help of a team whose philosophy is PLEASURE BEFORE PERFORMANCE.

Discover the Diamond Rock in a different way

If diving isn't your forte, why not explore the surrounding area by boat?

  • Short excursions (1 to 2 hours): Sail around the Rock, listen to captivating tales from local guides about its history, and take a dip in the crystal-clear waters of the "Rock Pool".
  • Sea half-days: In addition to discovering the Rock, sail along the coast to explore the surrounding coves, accessible only by boat.

These walks offer stunning views of other Martinique treasures, such as the Anse Caffard Memorial, the Maison du Bagnard, and the majestic Morne Larcher.
