Ajoupa-Bouillon

This small, flower-filled commune is home to a quite wonderful site, "Les Gorges de la Rivière Falaise".

Perched at an altitude of 260 meters, Ajoupa-Bouillon is a predominantly agricultural and forestry commune. Located on the foothills of Montagne Pelée, it is also the starting point for many hikes via the Trianon and Morne Calebasse trails.

It is said to have taken its name from Jean Gobert sieur de Bouillon, originally from Languedoc, who settled in the Marigot region, where he died in 1680.

It is he who, according to tradition, had an ajoupa (makeshift Caribbean shelter) built on the edge of the path linking Morne-Rouge to Lorrain, and a refuge much appreciated by travelers.
