Would you like to do something for the planet?

After two months of excitement - crowded beaches, open-air concerts, sports competitions and children's laughter - September marks a pause. A return to oneself. A new tempo. In Martinique, this special month is often one of rediscovered calm, unexpected encounters and gentler explorations. As the high season draws to a close, the island continues to vibrate... at its own pace. So how about letting yourself be carried away by this more intimate Martinique? Follow us on a sensitive journey, far from the hustle and bustle, with eyes wide open and a light heart.

What's the weather like in Martinique in September?

Gentle, complicit weather

Between 26 and 30°C, a few welcome tropical showers, and a more breathable atmosphere. Perfect for alternating sea bathing, siestas in the shade and morning hikes. All you need to do is keep an eye on the weather, plan carefully, and let daylight be your guide.

What to do in Martinique in September?

Beaches (almost) for yourself

Imagine: a deserted cove at sunrise, an oily sea, pelicans diving... Welcome to Anse Dufour, l'Anse Noire, the Anse Couleuvre or the Salines, September versions. No more touch-and-go towels. Here, silence is king and every swim becomes a meditation. Our favorite times: early morning to catch the first rays, or late afternoon when the sky merges with the sea.

Mindful hiking
Martinique abounds with trails, but in September, we rediscover them in a different way:

Humidity makes the vegetation greener, the waterfalls more generous, and the forest more sonorous. A word of advice? Favour milder days, and equip yourself with non-slip shoes: here, every step is an immersion.

Cultural activities to do in Martinique in September

(Re)discover culture, in peace and quiet

Museums and heritage sites regain their serenity. We take our time, ask questions, listen to the stories of a passionate guide...
In September, culture is experienced at human level, in an atmosphere conducive to reflection and transmission.

La Savane Des Esclaves Les trois-ilets
In a 3-hectare park, discover 400 years of Martinique's history: a reconstruction of an Amerindian village, a visit to the Rue Case-Nègres illustrating the way slaves lived in their dwellings, and finally the way people lived in the countryside after abolition until 1960. There are 25 traditional huts, 26 bilingual panels, a Creole garden and a medicinal garden to discover during your visit. A video of Gilbert Larose, the creator, explains the history of Martinique and what he has achieved. The tour is self-guided at your own pace, with a map provided and plenty of bilingual French/English signage.
Habitation Clement Le françois
  • Distillery
  • Tasting
Located in the heart of the sugar cane plantations, Habitation Clément now houses the historic headquarters of Clément rums, a magnificent botanical garden and the Clément Foundation for the promotion of Caribbean arts, making it one of Martinique's major cultural and heritage sites. It is characterised by the maintenance of its industrial activity, i.e. the cultivation of sugar cane and the ageing and preparation of rum. This dual activity, industrial and cultural, makes it little more than a business or a museum.
Fort Saint Louis Fort-de-france
  • Historic sites & monuments
With an uninterrupted view over the bay of Fort de France and its port, Fort Saint Louis is a must-see if you want to explore the capital's history in greater depth. Come and discover the secrets of this 17th-century fortress, one of the best preserved in the Caribbean, while enjoying an exceptional panorama. Old stone enthusiasts, the curious in search of new discoveries, young and old explorers alike are invited to follow the guides along the paths of the Vauban-style citadel.
Mémorial De La Catastrophe De 1902 - Musée Frank A. Perret Saint-pierre
Discovering the history of the town of St-Pierre also means visiting its places of remembrance. The MEMORIAL OF THE 1902 CATASTROPHE is one such place. 1902 resonates in the hearts of Piritins as the year when time stood still, as the end and the beginning of a new era. A former colonial town, also known as "Little Paris", ST-PIERRE enjoyed its heyday in the 19th century. Its influence grew with the ever-increasing trade in goods. On 5 May 1902, Montagne Pelée erupted with an unparalleled fury, levelling the town with a thick cloud of flames. The tragedy lifted a veil of nostalgia that will forever hang over the fallen capital. Immerse yourself in the catastrophe at close quarters thanks to the Frank A. PERRET Museum, and retrace its history through eyewitness accounts, photographic documents, faces, names and relics...

European Heritage Days in September

Because Martinique's culture deserves to be experienced from the inside.

September: Martinique in its most authentic version and rediscover the island as never before.
