In Martinique, it’s summer all year round—only better! And believe me, from January through December, my favorite island promises you a unique experience. Today, I’m going to tell you all about July!

Want to experience Martinique to the fullest, with local festivals, an electric atmosphere, and turquoise waters? Well, you couldn’t have picked a better time! July in Martinique marks the start of summer break, and believe me, the island takes on a whole new vibe.

If you love it when things get lively, when people are singing, and when the beaches come alive with excitement, this is the perfect time for you. Grab your sunscreen and your hat—I’m taking you with me to Martinique in July!

What's the weather like in Martinique in July?

A tropical climate with sunshine and light showers

Let’s start with our traditional weather update to help you plan your trip to Martinique in July. In July, the island is in the middle of its “hivernage,” or rainy season. But don’t let that word scare you… In Martinique, there’s no such thing as winter.

Martinique in July is, above all, bright sunshine most of the day. Yes, it’s true that rain is a bit more frequent than in March, but these are tropical “showers”: short, intense, and often very localized. You watch them pass by, take shelter for 10 minutes, and presto—the blue sky returns in full force! I like to think of it as a chance to take a little break!

As for the weather, average temperatures are perfect: around 31 degrees in the afternoon and lows around 25 degrees. It’s summer—the real deal! As for the water temperature in July, it’s pure bliss: an average of 28 degrees. The Caribbean Sea is like one giant bathtub. In short, spending the winter in Martinique has everything going for it, doesn’t it?

Why visit Martinique in July?

Get into the spirit of the Tour de Martinique des Yoles Rondes and the festivities

If you ask me what’s the one event you absolutely can’t miss in July in Martinique, I’ll answer without hesitation: the Tour de Martinique des Yoles Rondes.

The Tour of what?

Much more than just a sailing competition, the Tour de Martinique des Yoles Rondes is a true institution, a fervor that takes over the whole of Martinique… and a recognition of the Yoles Rondes as part of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage! Imagine colorful traditional boats sailing around the island for a week, cheered on by thousands of people… The atmosphere on the water and on the beaches is indescribable—believe me, you have to experience it at least once in your life!

In addition to this incredible festival, July marks the start of summer break in Martinique. The atmosphere is joyful; families gather on the sand for big picnics, and towns compete to come up with creative ways to host concerts and entertainment. It’s the season when you really feel like you’re “on vacation” the moment you step off the plane.

My Must-Sees for a July Getaway to Martinique

There are magical experiences all year round in Martinique… And especially in July! Here’s my personal selection—as a huge fan of Martinique—for a memorable trip:

  • You absolutely must catch a stage of the Tour de Martinique des Yoles: rent a boat or hop aboard a catamaran to follow the race up close and enjoy a wonderful, festive day. The singing, the drums, the colors… I’ve done it, and it’s an incredible memory!
  • Soak upthe lively atmosphere in Sainte-Anne: it’s the must-visit spot in July. The beaches in Sainte-Anne are bustling—perfect if you love lively places—with little restaurants right on the sand. It’s the dream for a perfect vacation!
  • Take a historical detour to Saint-Pierre: you’ll see—under the July sun, Saint-Pierre is a magnificent city of art and history. For me, it’s the perfect time to combine culture with a swim in the warm waters of the bay.
  • Treat yourself to a short cruise: the white sandbanks off Le François or Le Robert are incredible in July. The water is so warm you could stay in it for hours… And with a little glass of AOC rum, it’s even better (but always in moderation!)
  • Enjoy the island’s festive events: dance parties, the Reggae Therapy Festival, the Fort-de-France Cultural Festival…

July in Martinique: Wild and Bountiful Nature

Don't think nature takes a break in July! Thanks to the occasional rain showers, the vegetation is a shade of green I've never seen before. It's a real feast for the eyes!

July is also the perfect time to explore the waterfalls deep in the rainforest. They’re flowing freely and offer a truly welcome cool respite when the temperature gets a little too high—trust me!

In the gardens, it’s the peak of the season, and the tropical flowers are in full bloom. You’ll see—the balisiers and hibiscus are looking their best. It’s the perfect time to take a million photos.

My Practical Tips for a Great Trip in July

My tips to make sure your trip to Martinique in July is a blast from start to finish:

  • My little secret for the Tour de Martinique des Yoles Rondes: if you want to see the finish of a stage, get to the beach very early (before 7 a.m.!). The excitement builds quickly, and spots in the shade are hard to come by. Watch out for heat exhaustion!
  • The ideal suitcase—the rule is simple: leave warm, bulky clothes at home! In July, temperatures never really drop. Stick to cotton and linen, and don’t forget a lightweight rain jacket for the seasonal showers.

Why choose Martinique in July?

My take on it: For me, choosing to visit Martinique in July is a winning combination—it’s a golden opportunity to experience the island in a whole new way.

On the one hand, you dive headfirst into the heart of Martinican culture with the Tour de Martinique des Yoles Rondes and a passion you won’t find anywhere else. On the other hand, you get to enjoy the perks of the off-season: nature is a vibrant green thanks to the light rains, and best of all, airfare and lodging rates are much more affordable! For me, it’s the perfect time to treat yourself to a trip without breaking the bank.

So, shall we book it? I’ll be there with you!
